Chilliwack Spring Portraits: A Dreamy Evening at Garrison Crossing
Rain or Shine: Why I’ll Always Love Spring in the Fraser Valley
There’s just something about seeing those first pops of pink across the Fraser Valley and Greater Vancouver that makes the long winter feel totally worth it. After months of gray skies, the cherry blossoms feel like a giant "hello" from nature.
Finding Beauty in the Drizzle
Let’s be real—living in the Fraser Valley, spring usually means plenty of rain. It would be easy to wait for a perfectly sunny day, but I’ve actually grown to love the rainy ones. There’s a certain moodiness to a West Coast spring; the rain makes the blossoms look deeper, the greens appear richer, and the light becomes incredibly soft and flattering for portraits. I’ve learned that you don't need a clear blue sky to make a photo look magical—you just need the right perspective.
Evening Magic at Garrison Crossing
This year, I spent a beautiful evening at Garrison Crossing. If you’re a local, you know how iconic those trees are! Spring here is short and sweet, and I really wanted to capture that "dreamy" look. Of course, since it’s such a popular spot in a busy residential area, finding a quiet moment without cars or people in the background is always a bit of a mission!
The "Behind the Scenes" Magic
That’s where the art of the edit comes in. When you look at my photos, you might see a secluded, flowery garden—but in reality, there were probably three cars parked behind us and a building right across the street!
Part of the fun for me as a photographer is taking a busy corner and turning it into a dream. I spend a lot of time:
Cleaning up the scene: Removing distractions like signs, buildings, or parked cars so the focus stays entirely on you.
Filling in the blooms: Sometimes nature needs a little help, so I love digitally adding extra blossoms to make the trees look as lush and full as they feel in person.
Let’s Capture Your Spring Story
Even though the cherry blossoms are the stars of the show right now, spring is about so much more than just one type of flower. It’s about that fresh, new energy.
I’m currently booking individual, couple, and family sessions throughout Chilliwack, Abbotsford, Langley, Surrey, and Greater Vancouver. Whether we’re dodging raindrops or catching the last bit of evening sun, I’d love to help you create some beautiful memories before the season slips away.
