Portraits at White Rock Pier

I have to be honest—when I woke up and saw the cloudy sky and a little bit of rain, I wasn't sure if we should still head down to the pier. But that’s just the West Coast for you! By the time we arrived at White Rock, the rain had stopped, leaving behind that perfect, moody atmosphere that I love for portrait photography.

The light was so soft and flattering, and the red lanterns for the Moon Festival were finally hanging. Seeing those bright red colors against the dark, rainy clouds made the photos look so much more interesting than a typical sunny day. It was definitely worth the drive.

Walking the Pier

The White Rock Pier is such a popular spot, and even with the clouds, there were people out enjoying the fresh air. It’s such a nice walk along the beach, especially when the tide is out. There is a peaceful feeling there that you just don't get anywhere else in Greater Vancouver.

Where to Go After

After the session, we headed over to Marine Drive to warm up. If you are looking for a nice restaurant after a walk on the pier, there are so many great spots for fish and chips or a hot bowl of chowder. It’s the best way to end a damp morning by the ocean.

Catching the Sunset

If you’re lucky and the clouds break in the afternoon, this is hands-down the best place to watch the sunset. The way the light reflects off the wet sand after the rain is a dream for any photographer.

Let’s Tailor Your Session

I love capturing these "real" moments, even when the weather doesn't perfectly cooperate. It usually makes for the best stories! I’m currently booking portrait sessions in White Rock, Surrey, and the Fraser Valley.
